Gas Safety Week 2025: Help your customers to protect their home, friends and family

Glow-worm is proud to be supporting Gas Safety Week 2025, taking place on the 8th – 14th September. This essential week, coordinated by Gas Safe Register—the official list of certified gas engineers—raises awareness about the importance of maintaining safe gas appliances. Take part and help to keep your community safe and secure by prioritising gas safety.

Why is Gas Safety Important?

Unsafe gas appliances, whether improperly fitted or poorly maintained, can lead to dangerous leaks, fires, explosions, and even deadly carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. CO is a silent threat: it’s odourless, colourless, and tasteless, yet can cause severe health issues or death in minutes.

This Year’s Theme: “Looking After Your Home, Friends, and Family”

Everyone has a role in gas safety—from professional engineers and landlords to homeowners and friends. By sharing simple safety tips, you can make a real difference in protecting those around you.

Identify Early Warning Signs

Educate your customers and monitor their gas appliances for signs such as yellow or orange flames instead of the expected blue, black staining around appliances, pilot lights that frequently extinguish, excessive condensation, or error messages on control panels. Prompt identification allows for timely intervention, reducing risk.

Be Aware of Carbon Monoxide (CO) Symptoms

Educate customers and tenants to recognise symptoms like headaches, dizziness, breathlessness, nausea, fainting, or loss of consciousness. In case of these signs, ensure immediate ventilation, seek fresh air, and contact the national gas emergency helpline without delay.

Implement and Maintain CO Alarms

Install compliant CO alarms marked EN50291 with the British Standards Kitemark. Regular testing of these alarms is vital to ensure ongoing protection—an essential part of your health and safety protocols.

Schedule Regular Gas Safety Inspections

Arrange to carry out annual inspections of your customers’ gas appliances. If you are an employer or landlord, ensure these checks are documented and compliant with legal requirements, safeguarding your business and occupants.

Partner with Qualified Gas Engineers

Utilise the Gas Safe Register to promote as licensed professionals for installations, maintenance, and repairs. Always supply credentials and identification during visits to uphold safety standards and demonstrate compliance to clients and tenants.

By integrating these practices into your operations, your business can play a vital role in preventing gas-related incidents and ensuring a safe environment for all
