Glow-worm is proud to support Gas Safety Week 2024
Another year, the same goal. Glow-worm is once again happy to be supporting the importance of gas safety so you can maximise the safety of your home and get the most out of your appliances.
Gas Safety Week takes place annually to raise awareness of gas safety and the importance of taking care of your home. This year, Gas Safety Week will take place from the 9th-15th September 2024 to help promote a gas safety check.
This includes boilers, heaters, meters and pipework. Additionally, chimneys and flues will be looked at alongside the testing of carbon monoxide detectors.
Gas Safety Week is a helpful reminder to have your gas appliances checked to be fully prepared for the colder months ahead.
The national campaign’s purpose is to ensure homes are safe, as unsafe gas appliances can put you at risk of gas leaks, fires, and carbon monoxide poisoning.
There are numerous ways to educate yourself so you can protect yourself and your home from the dangers caused by unsafe gas appliances.
Here are some top safety tips to ensure that your appliances are safe to use and are not a threat to your home:
Regularly check appliances
Despite the recommendation that your boiler and other gas appliances should be serviced yearly, it is important to regularly monitor and use a Gas Safe engineer to fix any issues that happen in the meantime, as they could result in further problems.
If you are worried about your heating systems, we highly recommend getting in touch with your local Gas Safe Registered engineer to have your boiler serviced.
They will conduct inspections to detect any potential internal issues (leaks, corrosion, etc.) and physical issues (installation and ventilation faults) to combat the risk of carbon monoxide leakage.
If you have any concerns about your heating system, contact one of our installers.

Carbon Monoxide detectors are required by the law in new installations but and there are a numerous benefits that they bring to your home:

Only have your appliances serviced by a Gas Safe Registered engineer
Having an installer carry out a system safety check look at potential gas issues with your system means that the problem will receive the best solutions and recommendations from a trained professional. They can examine your system and fit a carbon monoxide alarm in your home to alert you of any issues. Make sure that the alarms are marked BS EN 50291 and display the British Standards' Kitemark.
Also, when choosing your installer, it is essential that they are qualified and Gas Safe registered to address the issue. You can check that your installer is Gas Safe registered by looking at the back of their Gas Safe ID card or checking the Gas Safe Register website. This is important as it will give insight into what type of gas work they are qualified to do, whether it be natural gas or domestic boiler work.
Make sure your home is well-ventilated
Making sure your home is well-ventilated is essential for gas safety as it allows for gas appliances to burn properly. You need to ensure that the chimney and air vents in your home are not blocked so that appliances can combust safely.
