What is load compensation?

Load compensation is a feature on all Glow-worm thermostats. It works by adjusting the temperature output of your boiler based on the temperature of the room. Because it doesn't need to over work your boiler to heat your home, it is also a great energy saving technique.

How does load compensation work?

Load compensation is made possible via the eBUS connection between the Glow-worm thermostat and Glow-worm boiler. The thermostat compares the current room temperature with the desired room temperature. It will then work- out how much energy is needed to reach the ideal temperature without burning excess gas.

What is the difference between weather compensation and load compensation?

Whilst the purpose of weather compensation and load compensation is they both optimise the efficiency of your heating system as well as performance. Weather compensation goes one step further to enhance the efficiency of your heating system by, not only looking at the current room temperature versus the desired temperature, but it also looks at the outside temperature. For example, weather compensation will anticipate the systems heating needs based on external conditions as well as looking at indoor temperature rather than focusing on just internal temperature changes (load compensation).

Load compensation and Boiler Plus

Boiler Plus regulations require boilers to include specific energy efficiency measures. Load compensation is one of the features that can be incorporated to meet these requirements. Including a thermostat with load compensation with your boiler helps to future proof your system and to keep it as efficient as possible.

Benefits of load compensation

Using a load compensated thermostat with your boiler brings a variety of economic and environmental benefits. The main benefits include:

Fuel consumption decreases due to your boiler operating more efficiently. Therefore, your monthly energy bills may decrease.

Consistent comfort levels from the adjustment of temperature eliminates any fluctuation to keep a comfortable home environment.

The boiler will run more efficiently, which means less stress on the system when powered therefore the system won’t experience as much stress on its components as it is heating your home to the correct temperature.

Load compensation helps to reduce fuel consumption due to performance optimisation.

Which Glow-worm controls have load compensation?

All Glow-worm smart home controls have load compensation, meaning that they automatically comply with Boiler Plus regulations.
